Limited Edition Print: 6

Photograph of Tamil women protesting with Big Ben in the background, Parliament Square, 2009

BACKSTORY TO THE PHOTOGRAPH:

“This photograph was taken infront of Big Ben when the Tamils were protesting about the ethnic cleansing in Sri Lanka. They had chosen to re-create a living concentration camp and march it through the streets of London which had a much more pronounced effect than words on banners or t-shirts could ever do. This photo for me is a bizarre juxtaposition; to see a concentration camp next to Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament – which is for many is seen as the cradle of democracy.” Mark Esper
